ABOUT US

About Us

Musical Theater Society Berlin was founded in January 2019 by Lauren. Missing producing and performing musical theater in her native UK, she founded MTS as a space for new and long-standing Berliners from around the world to share their passion for musicals and make theater together in their mutual language of English.

In October 2019 we set foot on stage for our first live performance with "A Walk Down Broadway” to a sold-out theater in Kreuzberg. We powered through the pandemonium of 2020 and performed over 50 online concerts followed by "Little Shop of Horrors" on Halloween weekend, again to a sold out audience. In September of 2021, we performed our second “Walk Down Broadway” cabaret, followed by a successful run of “Rent” in November. We produced our third “Walk Down Broadway” in March 2022, centered around the theme of “Hopes & Dreams”. Our most recent full-scale production, "Legally Blonde" in October of 2022, invigorated and inspired our community throughout its 5-show run in Wedding.

Inclusion and flexibility are important to us. We aim to be accessible to anyone who wants to do musical theater!

Our business status allows us to keep the financial cost of participation flexible. This especially matters to us since many of our members are students or up-and-coming artists—we want to be able to provide a stepping-stone into the professional theater world. Following a one time admin fee, membership is completely flexible, our members can jump in and out of whichever shows they want without the up-front commitment to year-long productions. Our costs—from licensing shows, to renting rehearsal and performance space, to producing costumes and sets—are covered by the combination of these administrative fees and proceeds from previous productions.

While our core team is made up of volunteers, we also love working with (compensated!) professionals from across the theater industry who lead many of our workshops, masterclasses, and courses. We’ve worked with well known artists, coaches, and performers from 5 countries with over 60 combined years of experience.

Why MTS?

I discovered MTS whilst browsing for English-speaking Musical Theater Groups. I had only been in Berlin 3 weeks and was already dying to get back on stage. Despite not knowing anyone upfront, the group immediately felt like a welcoming safe space, filled with incredibly talented, genuine, nice and enthusiastic people. It's a joy to come to rehearsal!

I promise you - one show with MTS and you're hooked! The passion for all things theater and the unbelievable talent, combined with being a truly welcoming environment, make it into an amazing place. The MTS creative team has got a clear vision but you're encouraged to give your two cents and take responsibility for what you bring to the stage. Such an enriching experience!

A word from our photographer

I have the privilege of knowing MTS and working with them since 2019 in Berlin. Ever since their first show they have been brilliant, thoroughly entertaining their audience, and have offered them great value for their patronage. Coming from multiple walks of life, individuals at MTS have put in extreme effort balancing their daily lives and their dedication towards art; successfully founded and headed by Lauren, MTS has been a harvest of passion, dedication and perseverance. I only hope to see MTS grow successful with talented and passionate people in the coming years, keep entertaining their audience, and I be part of that journey as well.
